Thank you so much, Dr. A, who gave Mei-Shun “Yes” phone call on Saturday. The latter just came home from kabuki dance lesson at Master Bando’s place as today. Her regular lessons are on Tuesdays shared with a new student Ms. S, while sometimes on weekend with Mihoryu-san who has already gained certificate of 師範. This 名取 would be able to enjoy it feeling a kind of free until next appointment in July.
Kikunoe Ryu
Two Teachers
StandardA small table to hold Mei-Shun’s 名取-related items fell down this morning. She took it as a message to clean, vacuumed around a stereo where a name plate, wooden sake cup and photos are displayed together. Oh, Master Mei-Shu, great to see you again in a 2-D image. Your second-to-last student feels happy to resume lessons lead by Master Bando, who shares love to kabuki dance with you.
What Would
Standard… be the best as winter gift to Master Bando? She is the person of the year for Mei-Shun: kindly lead the latter toward kabuki dance again. They are still involved in 京鹿子娘道成寺, yet in a bit different way after recent stage. 恋の手習い was dedicated to beloved Master Mei-Shu, while 花のほかには松ばかり=”only pine trees other than cherry” would be in Bando Ryu style.
Salary or Salad
StandardListen to Mei-Shun please, Princess Maria. Mr. O and 嘉扇=ka-sen-san, husband and daughter respectively of beloved Master Mei-Shu sent to weekend 白拍子花子 envelopes of 御祝儀=go-shugi, celebration money saying congratulations upon her stage. She received it this morning, burst into tears as she finished performance. You, however, prefer carrots and apples of course.
Double Symbol
StandardMei-Shun finally received following 手拭=te-nugui to use in 恋の手習い, never to wipe hands. Beautifully done, it arrived yesterday at noon packed in a paper tube — no, a pretty box was rolled in a piece of cardboard with buffers, saying “handmade silk towel for kabuki dance”. Now she has to sew a little, thin covering on it to avoid stains when bit by 白拍子花子 missing her cold-hearted lover.
Dance Day
StandardSo it comes again. Mei-Shun visited Master Bando for a lesson at 10 : 00, went back home around noon. Fine weather let her hang futon mats and the laundry in verandahs, turn them to dry both sides. She cooked, read newspaper, take care of Mikan-chan and plants, played Ms. Piano, etc. Then she put on kimono, went to a nearby community center to give kabuki dance lesson to Professor M from 19 : 30.
Joy of Dance
StandardYes, it is one of the greatest pleasures of Mei-Shun to have it. Actually, she felt pressure a lot at her technique, thought to cancel her stage reserved soon. However, Master Bando persuaded her tentative student to go ahead. “We dance for ourselves. What is the most important is to enjoy, isn’t it?” Her words make jewelry, brilliant enough to be a light which leads this kabuki dance lover.
Dance Day
StandardMei-Shun feels satisfied with it today. Master Bando gave her the first lesson last Saturday, while kindly arranged another this morning as well. She informed her tentative student on details regarding 邦楽発表会 of this year, fixed to be held on Nov. 29th. And Professor M came for a lesson at night. His has been once a month since we were hit by that coronavirus, yet might return to normal soon.
On a Fan
StandardMei-Shun visited Mr. O, husband of beloved Master Mei-Shu the other day. There she has it in her tiny new home — 2nd 紋=mon, seal of our kabuki dance party. 鳴鼓宝隆信女 is Master’s religious name; “鳴” and “隆” come from her secular ones, with the former her last 名取 takes over, while “鼓” means drums and “宝” treasure. It nicely represents what she was for the Os.
Missing Much
StandardMei-Shun has felt somehow at odd in hands and fingers since she started practicing Allegro among Impromptus, Opus 90 composed by Master Schubert. It seems she is lucky enough to be able to let Ms. Piano rest for a while, to concentrate upon kabuki dance instead. Oh, she has to contact Mr. O, late Master Mei-Shu’s husband if she left a 手拭=te-nugui, cotton towel necessary for performance in autumn.
