Thank you so much, Shin, for bringing home one of your wife’s favorite foods — Mei-Shun really loves honey. These are from wisteria, so rare in quantity that cannot be drawn into the market. It reminds them of Dreamer, black-brown beauty who passed away in the end of April. Wild wisteria bloomed very well this spring, as if fringed her road to the heaven.
Mei-Shun heard that Chinese people celebrates 端午の節句 today, lunar May 5th cooking 粽=chimaki, steamed rice ball wrapped by fermented (perhaps) bamboo leaves. Shin brought home some as follows below, with a bag of tree-dried jujubes. The former includes simple rice ball, red-bean one and millet ball with red beans. The latter is the first experience for her, incredibly superb.

Mei-Shun visited a beauty saloon in 高輪, Tokyo for a haircut and curling. It took 2 hours and a half, made her a bit tired in such humid air. However, she went ahead toward 吉祥寺 to meet Kaori-san who arranged dinner at “Épée”, a nice bakery-café. The former put off contact lens to enjoy conversation as much as possible, sharing several dishes with the latter.

Following below is a bag of ottotto, salty crisp shaped like fish which Mei-Shun likes from childhood. Thanks to packaging, calories per serving is so clear that she feels a kind of safe. Mom-in-law is also much helped by baby dishes, easily available compared with those for elderly persons.

Meow, dad brought home a souvenir from Okayama Prefecture where delicious white peaces come from. Of course it is 吉備団子, rice cake ball which 桃太郎=momo-taro, a hero born from a big peach gave to a dog, a monkey and a pheasant to make them his disciples. Purr, I love your shape, friends. Did you curl yourselves like I do on mom’s legs?

Yesterday was Children’s Day. Shin and Mei-Shun enjoyed 粽=chimaki, sweetened rice cake stick and 柏餅=kashiwa-mochi, rice cake wrapped by oak leaves, filled with sweetened bean paste. Well, the couple is in weight control, yet mentioned delicacy is indispensable. They therefore walked to the nearest shrine expecting to spend calories, while to make a wish on 朔 of lunar April.
We have 八十八夜, 88th night passed since立春 today. Green tea pick at this time is said to taste the best. Mei-Shun visited a nearby hair saloon in the morning, enjoyed a cup of it (maybe not so new) and rushed to a shop to purchase some, had right to draw a lot. Here she won 1,000-yen tickets, surprised not only herself but also clerks there. Now let her renew the teapot whose lid she broke the other day.
