Every morning, Mikan-chan jumps out of the bed, runs around the living room before walking back to mom, sits up straight with her tail neatly curled around the paws. This must be the cutest shot, yet even a slight click of camera catches her attention. She starts patting the floor with the tail unlaced, and …

It is also fine today, but are you all right, Mikan-chan? This year might see earlier summer. We started air-conditioning in the study room last week, while living room and bedroom follow yesterday. Even so, don’t you need any cushion? Well, mom’s hanten (=a kimono-shape, around-the-house clothes) seems working enough …
Mikan-chan often calls mom to stay by her for meal. When asked “tastes good?”, she replies “yeah”, twisting the top of her tail. Relaxing on mom’s legs, she continues her purring by her tail. Having her tail straight-up, she says that she had got up from a nap. Her satisfaction is shown in the tail holding around mom’s arm.
Mikan-chan loves sunshine, but not too much sunbathing. Sometimes she goes out of mom’s sight – a hide-and-seek game starts! Hummm … not in the bedroom. Neither on the refrigerator or in the closet. Oh? Here you are, just in your own bed.
Mikan-chan finally recovered from “mom sick”. When Mei-Shun returned home after 4 weeks, she shouted in joy (and warning?) from morning till night, getting a husky voice. She implored mom to stay sitting on the sofa holding her. Her intention to sleep on mom’s blanket was so assiduous that we let her spend three nights in our bedroom. Now, learning that mom would always come back to her, she has returned to peaceful nap alone.
Momo-chan, our garden princess, looks ready to grow fruits. She leaves many petals on Mei-Shun’s car, which has been taken over from her late father. Every spring, it seems that Momo-chan conveys warm messages and hug together from Mei-Shun, her mother and sister to their beloved one.
We had two avocados. After Mei-Shun started her hospitalization, Shin and his mother have taken care of several plants indoors including them. “Yellow Card” cymbidium and green necklace pods were kept fine, but they – maybe not strong enough – failed to survive the last blow of winter.
Don’t you think she is beautiful? Momo-chan, our garden princess, has descended from Mei-Shun’s grandmother on her mother’s side. She looks like dancing in full bloom. Her bright pink color is admired by everyone. Yes, for just a week in the middle of spring.
So this day has come – Mei-Shun gained a permission to go home. Still hospitalized, she started a life of a visiting patient who comes to the hospital twice a day. Mikan-chan has jumped back to her arms. She never stops staring at Mei-Shun all day long, calling her even while sleeping. Oh, sweet girl, thanks a million to remember your mom.
