Or it might be on time, Mei-Shun means. She is so much excited to see diligent Mademoiselle Vert grow promptly. One little bud has already become a long branch, divided into three parts. It is difficult to imagine how following two shorter, thinner “stalks” would work, yet there seems flower buds on the top. Anyway, she would be taken good care with enough water and food.

Yes, this is Showa Day, changed from Green Day in our previous Heisei era. Since it was birthday of Emperor Showa, Mei-Shun thought December 23rd, on which Emperor Emeritus Akihito was born, would be a holiday from 2020. However, it has become a weekday after 30 years, while February 23rd a holiday as Birthday of current Emperor Naruhito.

Meow, mom found following watermelon in a little cart at a grocery shop where 羅臼昆布, her favorite kelp is sold. She told me that a lot of such bargain sales are seen around here these days. One of the reasons might be postponement of 陶炎祭=hi-matsuri held in 笠間, according to a hairdresser who always serves nice tea cups. Why don’t you visit there next year to pick up my water bowl? So we have 春分=shun-bun, vernal equinox and 4th of spring 二十四節気 today. It is celebrated as one of national holidays in our country, with 秋分=shu-bun, autumnal equinox as well. Mei-Shun has wondered why only these 2 days among 24 are included. It might be partly because we have the most number (17) of such commemoration in the world.

Mei-Shun finds 羅臼昆布, kelp from the city in Hokkaido, the best for her. Not so sticky when soaked in water as 利尻昆布, crispier than 日高昆布 after cooked. Any of them give good umami, while the most above grown in the sea around the world natural heritage 知床 Peninsula nicely works both as a kind of herb and as dish ingredient. If you kind followers throw it away after taking dashi, please once try.

Chocolate Day

Or St. Valentine’s Day has come. Mei-Shun ordered much of that delicacy from a chocolatier located in western Tokyo. Bringing one among them chocolate-coated apple jelly, she visited her mother’s home for lunch joined by her elder sister. Time flew above these three women, chat after chat. By the way, that saint seems to prosper again in Europe these days.

Following below is a new teapot Mei-Shun purchased at her favorite shop. Its handle is put like a teacup, 90 degrees less angle compared to normal 180 toward spout. That makes it compact enough to save shelf space, while never allows her to pour by right hand only. She cannot but support the bottom by left hand covered with an oven mitten. Please keep safe such a thin arm, honey.

These six flavor-shade combinations are; cointreau white, haskap (=Lonicera caerulea var. emphyllocalyx … ohhh …) pink, brandy yellow, plum liquor ivory, wine red and peppermint blue. Since the sixth and the second have no alcohol, they might accommodate above two.

Although Shin is now on board for Australia, his photo taken last weekend at Kau-Hun or Jiu-Fen, Taiwan is still in the storage. It is said to be featured in 千と千尋の神隠し, a popular animation film produced by Mr. Miyazaki, Hayao. That makes sense to Mei-Shun, who had a feeling of déjà vu when she saw these buildings full of red lanterns. Parents of the heroine eat here like … pigs.

It might be the first time for Shin and Mei-Shun to pray at this 関帝廟. You need 5 long incense sticks to put into 5 burners served for each God, after bowing 3 times respectively. Then you are allowed to step forward to 5 statues in the main building. Now, it has passed 17 : 00 o’clock. Shall we stroll around a bit more before dinner at a 四川 dishes restaurant, the husband’s recommendation?
