Mei-Shun is currently giving lessons to Professor M in 梅の栄=ume-no-sakae, Prosperity like Plum Blossom. It was designated as the score for 名取 examination before she started her own lessons under the wings of Master Mei-Shu a decade before. Also the first performance on a stage, it reminds her of fresh days learning what kabuki dance is.

StandardIt stopped raining by noon. Dad’s three-night business trip to Shanghai ended, he gave mom a phone call from Narita Airport. She smiles like gentle sunlight coming through thin clouds, purr. They enjoyed tea time on a cup of coffee and … meow? Are you going out again, daddy? Such a hard worker needs to charge himself with our love and hospitality at home.

StandardRoom 301, Shin and Mei-Shun stayed at 竹泉荘, has a private outdoor spa. After taking an indoor bath of tulip (she gave another name 親指姫の間, Room of Tommelise) coated with lacquer, they changed into yukata and went down to 竈神=kama-jin restaurant for dinner. He chose a lighter-than-normal menu with a supplement: chef’s handmade bread she loves. Oh, whom this pretty bouquet is waiting for?
Joy in Miyagi
StandardIt was the 2nd time Shin and Mei-Shun stayed at 竹泉荘 on weekend. Nothing changed there — beautiful sight, lovely souvenir shop, comfortable hot spring, gorgeous room and meals. Slight changes included the room he reserved this time. It must have been up-graded toward the 5th, roof floor. However, a cloud of calicobacks (!) forced the hotel to close above room, to offer the couple a replacement by the second best.
Flexible Dressing
StandardThis season has a few days still like summer in daytime, yet rapidly grow cool in the evening. As for kabuki dance practice, single kimono is better. Mei-Shun therefore chose following one whose textile Shin purchased for her, while Master Mei-Shu kindly asked a friend to sew. And a piece of advice from Master Bando is not to let it lie in a drawer for long, but to put it on as often as possible.
Big Fig
StandardThank you so much, Aunt K. She is the best cook, wife of Mei-Shun’s eldest uncle of father’s side. Still getting along with her sister-in-law, this aunty kindly sends handmade foods including following delicacy to MS’s mother every year. “But they are in the biggest bottles so far”, she emailed to her younger daughter. “Prepare the strongest bag to take one home”.
Yes, she did.
Best of 2019
StandardIn the fruits field follows below. Her name is “Pizzuttelo Bianco”, from “pizzuto” in Italian meaning “pointed”. That really makes sense: she is also called “Lady’s Finger”. For Mei-Shun, it tastes lighter than “Shining Muscat”, made a debut a few years before to become quite popular these days. Both of them were included in big 4 boxes of gifts for Shin.
Brilliant Party
StandardMei-Shun has got a good idea. Beautiful precious stones should appear on cushions, instead of closed in vacant sweets boxes. And same for earrings Shin brought home for her; many of them are stored in lovely cases, others in music boxes. Now ladies and gentlemen, please relax on chatting. Mr. Emerald and Ms. Desert Star, you two have a special seat.
Farewell & Hello
StandardMademoiselle Vert, you decided to say it at last. Mei-Shun found one of lovely green flowers closed and a little browned the other day. It happens to one after another, only 10 are still kept fresh among 28 twins this morning. It breaks her heart, yet should be accepted as what every life on earth has to face. Please take her admiration for your beauty and longevity, quite difficult for human beings.
Got Them
StandardYes, Shin finally brought Mei-Shun to 丸屋履物店 in Shinagawa, Tokyo. They sell many kinds of Japanese sandals including 下駄=geta, made of wood. She has put on 草履=zori, plastic ones so far in kimono. Since light and dry sound of geta steps match summer yukata better, she is so much satisfied to have one tailored for the first time in her life.
