Mei-Shun learned it the other day. Her soup never became salty enough even after she added 4 teaspoons of the white, dry grain. She took it as coming from her condition, gave up to make more. When Shin tried hearing his wife’s wondering, he also failed, just told her “it tastes all right”. Now, he opened a corn can, spread a pinch of salt on it and burst into laughter — it was granulated sugar!

StandardAlso as the name of bookstore in Kyoto which hosted Kaori-san‘s exhibition, Mei-Shun plays it on Ms. Piano a bit better than before. She recently heard the same score by orchestra downstairs — meaning that mom-in-law learned this fascinating melody. Well, her daughter-in-law must be very careful not to make too much mistouch sounds from now, even if auditory difficulty would protect ears of the gentle lady.

StandardMs. Scarlet has finally come to us. Under the bright supermoon last night, Shin received her from his brother-in-law on behalf of Mei-Shun: she is not allowed to go out at night right now, even in the garden. She rushed to her this morning, found easy-to-learn numbers put on the plate. Hello darling, kindly let your mom start you for a trial drive. Oh? How to start your engine??
Slow Starter
StandardOur backyard gingko finally began to turn yellow. He is the last to do so, that means autumn is leaving soon: temperature in early mornings has already sunk under 3 degrees Celsius. Mr. Aladdin has asked Mei-Shun to replenish his stomach for a few times. Now, blown by gale after gale of winter, she receives another occupation to pick up fallen leaves in balcony.

Dance to Sleep
StandardWhen Mei-Shun would like to have a comfortable sleep in bed at night, she makes it a rule to call her inner sister Petite Mei-Shun and ask her to dance 娘道成寺. Ms. Petite always does very well, let Grande Mei-Shun go asleep before 引き抜き=hiki-nuki, quick change of costume with two different-color kimono layered. The other day, she tried 汐汲 as an inducer and failed — shocked by such a transient memory.
X’mas Already
StandardJapanese people, including Mei-Shun of course, love festival. They enjoy all through the year; New Year in Jan., St. Valentine’s Day in Feb., Girls’ Festival in Mar., cherry blossom in April, Golden Week in May, summer vacation with obon from the end of Jul. to the same of Aug., Halloween in Oct. followed by Christmas in Dec. Jun., Sept. and current month have nothing special, often drown into following celebration.
She Made It
StandardSince we have 立冬=ritto, the first of winter 二十四節気 today, Mei-Shun decided to wake Mr. Aladdin up. So heavy and powerful he is, she must be very careful. In order to protect tatami mats, she spread them with two bathmats. Tipping his cardboard box toward her side, she put it on a mat before bending her knees to hold and set him on another. Now, it’s become easy to pull him to the living room.

StandardMilk after bathing! Have you ever tried it? Mei-Shun heard that many people in her home country love to drink a glass of cold milk (or beer for adults) after taking a hot bath. It looks quite good for health, since we lose much water by perspiration while warming ourselves in bathtubs. Oh, please do not forget to place your free hand on the waist during this superb experience.

StandardMom-in-law is really good at sewing. She came up to Mei-Shun this morning in a new dressing gown, which the latter had seen somewhere else. Oh, it was Shin’s summer shirt. Nice color and pleasant feel of it might have stirred her capacity. Her eyes catch every rare information at home as well. Thanks to them, her daughter-in-law recognized that a light on the roof floor has been turned on — for weeks!
