Surprise Gift

Standard

Thank you so much, Professor S. She kindly sent Mei-Shun a delicacy of handmade again. Truly amazing is her technique and sense of beauty to employ such cute rose-shaped crystal beads. And this jade rose represents her warm regards. That must be why it just fits on the little cup behind Mei-Shun’s collarbone.

Clever Horses

Standard

They are just great. 110 and more horses are working for a club in Ryugasaki. They work much harder than many of us; 6 days a week from 10:00 to 20:00. Rachel, the first partner of Mei-Shun, is a 17-year-old girl who has a shiny brown coat. She is kind and patient enough to follow beginners’ awkward signs to stop, walk and trot. Thanks, Ray-chan. Mikan-chan gave a permission to communicate with you. See you next week with a banana.

Izayoi Moon

Standard

We see 十六夜, one day after the moon looks full called 十五夜, tonight. It comes up to the sky a little delayed compared to last night. In old days, they took it as moon’s hesitation and read this Chinese letters izayoi. As the moon appears later night by night, they call 17th moon 立待月, 18th 居待月 and 19th 寝待月 meaning to wait for the moon standing, sitting and lying.

Turn to Yellow

Standard

Yes, on our lunar calendar, autumn has already come. Tokyo had serial 8 days of over 35 degrees Celsius from July 31st to August 7th. And this green started to go yellow from August 8th, risshu (=the beginning of autumn) of this year. It is amazing to see that truly reflects seasonal change.

Full of Flowers

Standard

This vase is made by 辻常陸 whose works of simple beauty attract us. It is Professor S. who first informed us on him — she gave Mei-Shun a mug to celebrate her late recovery. Not only drawings but also the kind-to-hand shape of his work lets you feel really refreshed after tea. Now, a thistle joined our table while full blossom of wisteria and three little butterflies wait for white flowers to top them.

Professor S once told Mei-Shun that bracelets seemed to be for men. And that her husband, ex-ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiare, had asked his sweetheart to hand-make some. He is absolutely right — they must have ultimate power to protect him (^-^),

Blue Reminds

Standard

It was a summer day of 2013. Mei-Shun shared a Chinese table with respectful “friends” for lunch in Tokyo. Professor S. gave these necklaces and pierces as a return gift: we had sent a bouquet to celebrate her birthday. Mammy beads are nicely arranged, made a good combination with the black dress Mei-Shun put on.

You can find snowmen, cats, sea shells, etc. among these accessories hand-made by Professor S. Not only an excellent designer, she is also a fine judge for cute jewelries. Mei-Shun once accompanied to her favorite shop in Okachimachi, Tokyo. So many kind of beads are hung on the wall that it looks like a museum.
