This is one of corns mom-in-law grew. Not only a good cook, she is the best garden manager who chooses, plants and grows flowers, fruits and vegetables. Her 梅干し=ume-boshi, dried plum pickles has recently been found to be an excellent seasoning by Mei-Shun. Many people in our country eat it with rice porridge, yet a few put it directly into their cookers.
This is another souvenir of Shin who went on a business trip through Nagano, Yamanashi and Hokkaido. Mei-Shun loves both 六花亭=rokka-tei and Royce‘, two tops of pâtisserie roster in above northernmost prefecture. The husband had always chosen the former before the wife asked him to purchase chocolate-coated potato chips produced by the latter.
They came from Yamanashi Prefecture via Shin. Called 黒玉=kuro-tama, lightly sweetened green-pea paste balls are coated with brown sugar whose smooth surface might come from algae. Taste good in room temperature, while the best after getting out of refrigerator. More famous 信玄餅=Shingen-mochi is also accompanied by brown-sugar syrup, might be popular among natives.
Ms. Piano, it was really difficult for you and Mei-Shun to choose scores to sing together yesterday. Weather changed from all clear in the morning to evening thunderstorm, made them wonder which was better; rainy one composed by Master Chopin, or moonlight by Masters Debussy and Beethoven. Mei-Shun visited a nearby hair salon. It was rainy from early morning, let her use an umbrella besides a face mask. She put on a indigo dress with yellowish patterns, chose navy blue for the former and beige for the latter. Such color combination is enjoyable for her, while Shin and mom-in-law are never interested in that big flowers often bloom under dark clouds.
We have 小暑=shousho, the 5th of summer 二十四節気 today. Rainy season is expected to finish soon on solar calendar, yet seems to prolong this year as well. And 七夕=tanabata to celebrate annual rendezvous for 織姫=ori-hime represented by Vega and 彦星=hikoboshi by Altair, normally difficult to see them in the sky from the ground. However, kind slight sunlight reached Mei-Shun who loves to dry futon outdoors.
Mss. K, S and Mei-Shun dance together 奴さん=Yakko-san, meaning a samurai servant these days. Master Bando chose this 端唄 light score, suggested above trio to perform it on a stage in yukata next summer. Taking it a nice idea, MS asked her to instruct them also in おてもやん=Otemo-yan, a girl with red round cheeks. All three ladies looked a kind of shocked, said they have thought she prefers long, serious 長唄 like 京鹿子娘道成寺.
