We would see 十三夜=13th moon, the 2nd beautiful next to full tonight. It also means birthday of Mei-Shun on lunar calendar. She therefore prepared a bottle of Madeira wine Shin kindly ordered for her solar day. Actually, the other they opened first had a cork so dry that broke into liquid. “We should have laid them”, he said. However, she coughs too hard to enjoy alcohol.

Many Moons
StandardWhere is the wooden 巳=snake Mei-Shun might purchase at a shop located in Ueno Station a long time ago? 2025 is an year for her mother, must feature that reptile on a dining table to join little cats. Among 十二支 symbols; 子, 丑, 卯, 午, 申, 酉, 犬 and 亥 are from the same artist. 寅 is represented by Mikan-chan while 辰, 未 by tiny stuffed animals.
Tough Traveler
StandardMei-Shun enjoys 七草粥 celebrating lunar January 7th tonight. It is quite easy to cook thanks to a freeze-dried package of 7 wild vegetables — she just asked her diligent rice cooker to make porridge, added above ingredient in a serving bowl. 月餅= moon cake from Chinatown in Yokohama would accompany her supper alone, while Shin turned to Nagoya leaving this souvenir.
School Song
StandardWe have 立春=risshun, the 1st of vernal 二十四節気 today. Still freezing outdoors, many children in our country are taught to sing 早春賦. It means an early spring poetry, with lyrics describing a season only by a name. Shin, Mikan-chan and Mei-Shun enjoyed 豆まき=roasted soybean spreading yesterday. Such an event at home would give good meals for birdies.
Mild Meow
StandardSo we are at the end of solar January today. Since on Friday, Mei-Shun feels like it still continues toward weekend, with 節分=setsu-bun on Sunday. Among 4 of it before each beginning of seasonal 二十四節気 including 立春, 立夏, 立秋 and 立冬, the first one on rare February 2nd is the most known because it almost means lunar new year. Oh, how beautiful a 3rd crescent is, floating massive above dark horsey field!
Nice Number
Standard… Mei-Shun means not on a scale but a locker at her 2nd horsey riding club. She normally prefers even figures; 2, 6, 8, 22 while has odd 1, 5, 13, 19 as birthdays of her family members. And the latter represent upper shelves here, quite convenient to store valuables, bags and clothes. On the other paw of Mikan-chan, “1” sounds like “the best” or “top” always difficult to achieve for her mom.
Lucky Lune
StandardLunar 2025 starts from today. Mikan-chan and Mei-Shun visited the nearest shrine for the first time on solar calendar, after driving Shin toward a station. It was around 6 : 30 yet a ceremony had already been set in the main building. Now what fortune would Gods give via omikuji lots? 吉=kichi, lucky with No. 34 and 16. The latter is all the same as the one he brought home 4 weeks before.
Beauty to Bright
StandardHere Princess Cymby opened as many as 8 flowers. Since she loosened 3 buds on Saturday, round shapes changed into stars one after another. Mei-Shun actually felt a bit sorry for gorgeous roses from Shin as they wither day by day — she has pulled some out of a vase, hung them outdoors to dry. However, it has become clear to her that a message from a queen bouquet reached a young lady.
