Here is kohlrabi Mei-Shun met for the first time. They say it means “cabbage and radish” in German, derives from B. oleracea. Its scent might come from the former while shape from the latter. Quite cute in looks, it gives crispy texture before fried. Scrambled with eggs, sweetness and refreshing hotness in a distant dance within your mouth. Easy to grow at home? Well, that sounds very nice.
interesting
Japanese Culture@holiday
StandardWe enjoy one of “Happy Mondays” today, set by a system started in 2000. It allows 3-day holidays including Saturday, Sunday and Monday. However, what would happen to most libraries and museums closed on Mondays? Mei-Shun wondered, searched and knew that they will be open on holidays including above, closed on such Tuesdays. Hmm, it depends on your profession what day is the happiest.
Peach Princess
StandardNamed きららの極み=kirara-no-kiwami, Extremely Shiny, they arrived into Mei-Shun’s arms. How pretty, and how tasty you are left in room temperature for three days! Growers recommend to have them immediately after delivery, yet she prefers softer mouthfeel. Interested in environmental difference, she put tags on each fruit to recognize time before stored in the refrigerator.
Autumnal Garden
StandardOur 萩=hagi, Japanese bush clover is in 80% bloom. Roses are in half, normal pink and vine white. What attracted Mei-Shun’s attention most was that the latter looked salmon pink a few days before, turn to white with red trimming later. It has not been recognized in such unique shades. Hi, little boy, did you flush stared by a woman? Please relax and grow further to reach the brick wall facing to a street.
Windy Water
StandardMei-Shun walked around 乙戸沼 Park after a long time — almost one month and a half since she visited there in July. Yes, she missed you, Mr. and Mrs. Cormorant. Great to see fountains make upside-down umbrella in the center of the pond again. Oh? it looks a bit distorted by just a breeze, depending on direction maybe. And mom, they are the flowers you mentioned before, aren’t they?
Healthy Stomach
StandardMei-Shun received a letter from Tsuchiura City, recommending a blood test. It aims to recognize particular materials secreted from the stomach, they say. One of them is pepsinogen (PG) whose ratio of I to II shows how much your stomach shrinks. If you are infected with helicobacter pyroli, PG I will be higher than 70 while I/II ratio more than 3. Fortunately, both of her results were proved negative.
Listen, Listen
StandardThey are so curious. We should not speak ill of others along a lane between them, or they could absorb nefarious words to taste bitter. Harvested soon, we sincerely wish them taste sweet. It is interesting that only this space accommodates a different breed every year. Planted later than normal ones, they might not need so much sunlight compared to the latter.
Lily Left
StandardAlready gone this morning, Mei-Shun found them blooming in the last two the other day. How brilliant your dress is, graceful your figure is! Attracted so much, she drew omikuji on behalf of Shin and for herself. His was 吉=kichi, lucky while hers 小吉=sho-kichi, a little. Interestingly, they had serial numbers in 47th and 48th saying; he would be blessed by Gods after patient efforts, she be helped by other people before blessed.
Singing In …
StandardWe are still in rainy season, yet no drop beats the ground around here these days. Dry wind starts to blow just after dawn, makes us feel exhausted. Sometimes grey clouds are seen, heavy thunder heard from far away, never reach this area expecting good shower for plants. And one of Japanese summer symbols seem to stay in their subterranean home: white cicada babies still wait the best timing to appear.
Change Color
StandardThat seems why hydrangeas are said to carry messages like “whim” and “arrogance”. On the other hand, blue flowers have “patient love” while “humbleness” with lace caps. Mei-Shun has to thank to the Ys, because they let us enjoy not only the last one in violet but also pink gradation. And she is happy to do so to mom, who really represents sky-blue following below in her garden. Dad, you loved it so much as well.
