Mei-Shun found them at an edge of curtain rail bracket in Shin’s study. It was last Thursday, snowed in the morning followed by rainfall in the afternoon. She heard something regular, took it as coming from outdoors and opened shutters. Stayed there for a while, confirmed it stopped, she went back to the kitchen — what a blunder! After dark, it started again to let her recognize the cold reality. All wet the wall, floor, cabinet and a chocolate box she prepared for today.

Dojoji: 2
StandardThey held a memorial service for the lost bell burned down with 安珍. Women were prohibited to enter 道成寺 site after 清姫’s affair, yet they allowed a beautiful 白拍子=shirabyoshi, dancer in entertainment business to come in. They gave her a 烏帽子=eboshi, formal cap for guys to dance putting on and made it an excuse of letting her cross the threshold. Actually, she was a vengeful spirit of 清姫. That is why she dances to lyrics starting from 鐘に恨みは数々ござる=I’m full of grudge towards the bell.
Dojoji: 1
StandardPrecisely, 京鹿子娘道成寺=kyoganoko-musume-dojoji. It is based on a 能=noh featuring Legend of 安珍=anchin and 清姫=kiyohime. 安珍 was a handsome monk visited 熊野 Shrine. He stayed for a night at 清姫’s home who fell in love with him at first sight. He refused her, running away to hide under a big bell of nearby 道成寺. Furious 清姫 changed into a fire-breathing dragon and burned him to death. Hundreds of years later, 道成寺 monks constructed a new bell.
Fluffy Memory
StandardIt’s been snowing from early in the morning. White feathers come down one after another. Such a sight reminds me of the first day I arrived here at new home accompanied by mom. I’d lived in a glass cage until then, never seen outdoor world. It was raining — what’s going on? There’s water here and there! But I’m not wet. Why? Scared but interested in, I stayed beside the window. Yawn, this is it. Thanks mom, time to take a nap.

Fourth Princess
StandardShe seems to have started blooming procedure just after one of her elder sisters moved away. Now it is warm and windless today, all different from these serial two days. Thank you so much for kind patience, Your Highness, a little more of it would be vastly appreciated. Sunlight would serve you soon in the balcony. A weather forecast says that it might rain, or even snow tomorrow. Have you already used to 三寒四温? Three freezing days before four mild ones Japanese spring has.
2017 Symbol
StandardIt is 酉= tori, rooster as mentioned before. Shin and Mei-Shun have made it a rule to visit Fukushima Airport at the beginning of the year. They are always happy to see twelve cute 干支 animals made of paulownia sawdust there, while a tabby kitty joined this year. Apples, another target were not available, so they chose kumata-pan, buns with sweetened bean paste filling. Yes, sweet … coated with white sugar, sized in your palm. It may easily make you round-shaped like our 丸酉!
Gallop, Gallop
StandardThanks a million, Amazones. Your name sounds like a woman fighter, while never you are and called Ama-chan, meaning a sweetheart or beginner in Japanese. Since it is a trial lesson to go up to the next class, an instructor helps each student in a circle course using leading ropes set on horseis’ shoulders. Tutorial DVDs say that it is much speedier than looks, it really was. Mei-Shun recognized how enormous the pressure was when she found her eyes quite congested, hands stiff.

Orchid Arrangement
StandardMei-Shun asked injured princess to move. Since calla lilies in Shin’s birthday gift drooped, she removed them to make a new throne. Could you please have a seat here? Oh, you look happy accompanied by white knights.
They say cymbidium needs to be divided and planted into new pots in a few years. After blooming, leaf buds start to grow in around April, season of cherry blossom. That doesn’t mean now, darling, who opened yesterday.
Fully Equipped?
StandardFor today’s lesson, Mei-Shun put on the amber 帯留=obi-dome, ornament for a string on kimono sash while a 簪=kanzashi, hair accessory beside her chignon. Both of them are gifts from her generous husband who always encourages good practice. It would be perfect with the silk kimono, yet there is a serious obstacle: she has to drive to Master Mei-Shu’s residence. That textile is so smooth that it easily come down on the floor. She cannot stand such a danger and — dirt on it.
