Family Lunch
StandardMei-Shun, her mother and elder sister met with each other today finally: They enjoyed an okonomi-yaki party after almost a whole year. They had gathered for celebrating mother’s birthday in early summer, before Shin and Mei-Shun made visit to her in 草津 one of their happy regular excursions. The only problem of this idea is that Mei-Shun lacks a chance to see her sister. Mother worried about it, offered her younger and freer daughter to arrange a lunch at her home.
Autumn Style
StandardMei-Shun went out with Shin in the morning to visit a beauty salon in Shinagawa. With advice by her designated hairdresser, she got a curling treatment. More than 20 years have passed since she had it last time — amazing progress in technology. Thank you, Mr. H. She then met Shin again at a Japanese restaurant which serve them delicacies full of autumnal scent. Her excursion was successfully closed in Asakusa to buy 草履=zouri, Japanese sandal for 汐汲 performance.
Shall We?
StandardMei-Shun’s goal in horse riding is dressage. A horse and his/her rider would cooperate with each other to make beautiful performance, that seems to resemble dancing. In Japanese dance, performer is fundamentally alone on the stage. On the other hand, dressage requires good communication between a horse and a human being in the field. Therefore, the more she practices with kind horseys, the more she might be interested in 連舞=tsure-mai, meaning Pas de deux or Duet.

StandardMaria, a snow-white girl in quarter breed gave Mei-Shun a beautiful gift: a promotion. It has taken a whole year for her to go two steps up, might be a slow doer. No problem, the most important is to enjoy. Technique learning would follow after she finds her own way to communicate well with that glorious animal. And another reward of effort nicely arrived: a little loss in weight. Her eating a day consists of ample breakfast, lunch and light supper. Sweets are not allowed while a teaspoon of honey, dried/fresh fruits are.
Good Friends
StandardOne year has passed since Shin brought his wife to the horse-riding club. At first, just seeing horseies satisfied her. Their kindness to let her ride on gave the happiest entertainment. Now getting used to it, she wants more: she would like to be friends with that beautiful animal. She has only admired them so far, allowed them to do as they like. However, it might not be the right attitude toward her partners. On an equal footing, a horse and a human being should combine with each other to create great performances.
Lingering Summer
StandardToday’s highest temperature in Ibaraki was just a bit lower than 33 degrees Celsius. Yes, September is such a month these days. Most of Mei-Shun’s generation, sometimes called 昭和人=Showa-jin, people born in our previous era, remember clearer boundaries between four seasons 2 decades before. Maybe affected by global warming, recent summers appear to reside with us until winters approach just nearby. So does next-door 百日紅=saru-suberi, serving Mei-Shun a gift in eyes.
Night Lotus
StandardShin and Mei-Shun visited 水郷 Park. They found that it is one of “Poké-Sta.” since there were many people walking around with their smart phones in hand. The former looked happy to play on his own while the latter was more interested in flowers around them. She had believed that they slept at night, yet some of these lotuses bloomed in lovely pink. Or mischievous monsters might ask them to provide good hiding places.
Enjoy Yamanashi
Standard昇仙峡, Shosenkyo is one of the most beautiful places Mei-Shun recommend you to visit. White, uniquely shaped rocks give wonderful contrast with clean, emerald water especially in winter followed by simmering hoto. It is a miso stew with various vegetables including pumpkin, Japanese white radish, carrot, leak, etc. while meat and hoto noodle. We found it nice in summer as well with egg plant, cucumber, tomato and okra today.
Sweetfish
Standard鮎, ayu tastes the best from June to August. Mei-Shun has a propensity for it, asked Shin to arrange a lunch date at their favorite Japanese food restaurant in Shinagawa. They know well what she covets, serving a course featuring grilled one. This genuine delicacy is edible from top of head to edge of tail, except for white-salted fins. Oh, rainy season is over in Kanto area. Thank you so much for bringing real summer to us.
