New Scores

Standard

Mei-Shun continues piano practice, yet only 10-15 minutes a day. That means no progress in technique, even deterioration maybe. Refreshing breeze is necessary for Ms. Piano. Some of her favorite scores have many sharps and flats, while played in “Largo”. “Allegro” or “Presto agitato”, represented by the third movement of “Sonata quasi una Fantasia” by Beethoven, are never for her. Soothing music, not so complicated — oh, how about the one in animation films?

Simplified Names

Standard

Our club has two guys who shared ex-owner’s names “Tosen”. Treasure and Applause, did you became independent from it? Mei-Shun saw the former at the first lesson of this year. When she heard his name selected, she took him as another guy. Then, we cannot call you T. T. anymore but just T, can we? It sounds a bit bizarre. All right, you would be Tore-chan from today while your junior colleague App-chan. Other surnames including “Admire” and “Taiki” would be removed soon.

Oh, Again

Standard

Shin never checks up pockets after coming home, makes his wife wash train tickets so often. This time, one for a bullet train accompanied him from Taiwan. Hum, amazing technique in paper and printing — not so twisted in the washing machine, readable letters. They make sense for Mei-Shun who has learned Chinese on the radio. Y/M/D, car and seat numbers, paid by a credit card, for an adult. For your safety, please do not hesitate to use elevators if you are with big luggage or elderly.

Car in Pink

Standard

We have finally seen it. It has been taken as a joke for Shin and Mei-Shun — a car named “C.” in shocking pink by T. Mortar Corp. As a famous luxurious car brand, “C.” lines employ white, blue or gray coloring, loved by successful business people. Even in an astonishing shade, it was never expected to be found in parking area of a supermarket. According to Shin, it looks like a taxi in Thailand. Is the owner from the country then? We were a little bit interested in, yet it depends.

Mei-Shun had a computed tomography held once an year today, on 朔日=saku-jitsu, the first date of a month in lunar calendar with a new moon at night. Thanks to the good timing of CT scanning, she was able to learn a little how to read the image from Dr. A. She said it looked fine, adding that she would give a “Yes” phone call after 2 weeks. Actually, before visiting the hospital, Mei-Shun walked to the nearby shrine and won the luckiest omikuji fortune.

Gorgeous Sight

Standard

It really is in Tsukuba right now. Most of main streets are trimmed by trees beautifully bloom in spring, colored in autumn. Mei-Shun’s favorite includes Japanese maple whose coats depend on daily temperature and weather in summer especially. Perhaps the latter made one yellow instead of red, with already browned leaves on the top. Another keeps green while in part turning into bright red. The only problem is that they are too attractive to keep drivers’ eyes on the road.

Kogarashi I

Standard

We have it from the middle of October to the end of November, the first cold wind blowing from the north, stronger than 8 meters per second. It roared around Kanto area yesterday, forced Mei-Shun to stay at home all day long. She was so much worried about Mr. Banana that rushed up to him this calm, freezing morning. He was safe — stand still while bigger one growing a new leave. Such picture reminds her of late avocado couple. Do they share a tropical, powerful lifestyle?

2nd Harvest?

Standard

It looks they harvest rice only once in early autumn. That plant is strong enough to grow again, while no sparrows come to sip milk from the ears. They might be empty or too small to feed little birds. If the first, tasty harvest results from agricultural efforts including pesticides and fertilizers, the second one symbolizes what it is by right, doesn’t it? Our ancestors have tampered with the nature to eat more. We currently try to eat less for good health.

Meow Fortune

Standard

Mei-Shun drew an omikuji fortune slip all the same as the one she did at the beginning of this year — the 22nd 吉=kichi, meaning lucky with a number sounds like a cat calling you twice. Only a difference between them is property of paper. Oh, it reminds her the sight here in new year days. Several girls in white kimono and red 袴=hakama, Japanese pants served to hand us results while we normally help ourselves. They are called 巫女=miko, maiden employees at temples and shrines.

We had 鬘合わせ=katsura-awase, or 坪合わせ=tsubo-awase this afternoon. The latter involves stage settings and properties staffer, while ours means the former to make metal bases for wigs and to measure sizes for kimono costumes. A Japanese-style wig master gauges our head to fit a base like a cap first. Then he beats it with a wooden hammer to make the best curve on our cheeks. Finally, two metal belts will be arranged on our back of the head to support the biggest front part.
