Not only in our country, watermelons seem to be the most popular fruit in summer. Here is 金福=kin-fuku one grown specifically in Gifu Prefecture. With kin means “gold” while fuku “happiness” in Japanese, they are so loved by Hong Kong people that we must be in a hurry to order and enjoy them before exported. He is also satisfied, smiling to come to Shin and Mei-Shun.
Oh, you are the one grown on Mei-Shun’s balcony, aren’t you? Whitish violet stays on every short stalk, shining at the bottom of cherry trees. Great to see you at 乙戸沼 Park again. Of course you have a real name, yet please let her call you after far-away asteres aplanis. Their light reach our mother earth traveling billions of years, just like you did to give a new life onto a withered flower plate.
Cicadas are singing lively, quite sooner to get up compared to Kanto area. Shin and Mei-Shun’s favorite itinerary includes walking around the commodious garden of 二条城 in the morning, yet they chose to take a bus to 四条大橋 this time. On the way to 八坂神社, the wife found a statue of 出雲阿国=izumo-no-okuni who started kabuki. Ah, 南座 is here protected by you, Master.
Shin and Mei-Shun felt heart-broken for victims in western Japan hit by extraordinary rainfall which triggered flooding and landslides. However, they decided to keep the reservation fixed months before, wishing to serve a drop of financial aid to those displaced. Sunny morning of Sunday allowed them to visit 八坂神社=祇園さん to return 粽=chimaki they purchased last year.
It is the first time for Mei-Shun to make gemstones into a necklace. Thanks a million to Professor S, who kindly helped it completed. Now the former can enjoy it with two pairs of earrings, followed below by one made by the latter lady. Another is of ancient Venetian beads used to exchange with slaves from southern countries. Sad history might sometimes appear as beauty in arts.
People living there will see Gion Festival soon, envied by Shin and Mei-Shun. Since hotels are full reserved before 前祭=saki-matsuri and 後祭=ato-matsuri held on July 17th and 24th respectively, they visited there this weekend. It was by chance that 七夕=tanabata was chosen, the only night an year for a celestial couple allowed to meet with each other crossing the Milky Way.
They said rainy season tentatively returned, yet it rather seems a typhoon. Windy, rainy, cloudy, sunny and windy again in every 10 minutes. So he is yours, dad, why don’t you replace him with the towel turtle whom you hold on the sofa instead of me in summer? Mom saw the latter’s soul in 乙戸沼 the other day, finding him not a tortoise.

After they declared that rainy season looked to have left Kanto area at the end of June, the soonest on meteorological records, we really have torrid summer. Weirdly windy from early times, it has been all clear for several days in a row. Since Mei-Shun prefers quiet mornings, she is a bit tired of such a condition where no window could be opened to give stuffy rooms a good airing.
