Shin and Mei-Shun enjoyed on Saturday 宵々山=yoi-yoi-yama, floats exhibition held two nights before 山鉾巡行=yama-hoko-junko, march of these portable shrines of Kyoto Gi-On Festival. Here is their favorite 舟鉾=Fune-Hoko, ship-shaped one. It reminds them of their first Gi-On experience more than 20 years ago, when they met Mei-Shun’s father by chance on the way to Kyoto.
We are still in rainy season, yet no drop beats the ground around here these days. Dry wind starts to blow just after dawn, makes us feel exhausted. Sometimes grey clouds are seen, heavy thunder heard from far away, never reach this area expecting good shower for plants. And one of Japanese summer symbols seem to stay in their subterranean home: white cicada babies still wait the best timing to appear.
Mikan-chan always knows how Mei-Shun feels. When the latter takes rest on a futon mat with a fever, the former immediately joins while relaxes at her best place, looking indifferent when her mom is in better condition. All the same occurs between her parents — when Shin and Mei-Shun are in a bad mood after quarrel, their fluffy daughter rushes toward them with her tail upheld, turns on her back purring.
Ms. Piano takes good care of my mom who currently in practice of “Fantasia” from Nausicaä, Princess of Windy Valley. It looks she has to avoid any interference in mind while learning the score. I feel a bit jealous when she is in such a concentration, sometimes jump over her feet on pedals. She just smiles and softly asks me to stop, since she knows I never climb up to keys to play by myself.

御中元=ochugen, summer gifts are ready. Mei-Shun ordered special packages to 風流堂 as usual, asking a minor change in products. She had wondered why they never post English version for online shopping, emailed on this matter this time. Their reply was in a letter attached to the box for Master Mei-Shu: it seems they keep the job for their smart granddaughter who lived in the U.S. till recently, a WASEDA Univ. student.

Black swallowtail butterflies seem to be haunted by her grandmother. Mikan-chan, why you “bark” at him? You stopped when mom came to take a photo. Do you mean to call her asked by this new face? What a good girl!
We are so happy to see you two in the garden. And it was lucky for Mei-Shun who found you standing straight up in green before Shin used the lawn mower. Ah, that might be why she often saw butterfly couples these days. They were messengers sent by you to let us know today’s festival, weren’t they? All right, let’s wish 織姫 and 彦星 would be able to meet tonight crossing a bridge made by magpies over the galaxy.
They chose this name for the lovely Amazonian manatee at 熱川バナナワニ園. Meaning in Portuguese “together”, they express thankfulness to him staying with us so far and hereafter. It reminds Mei-Shun of a dog kept by the landlady of the residence Shin and she lived just after marriage. From 4th floor balcony, she often called him Jun-jun who never looked up to find her.
It looks mom tries to stop thinking about 師範 certificate of 菊ノ上流, a Japanese dance party she belongs to. As an alternative, she discussed with Ms. I to pass the 4th grade test held by a national entity within this month. Upper pair of shoes following below walked in Tunisia raining. Such a rare experience is only for them. Quite likened by Mei-Shun, they have worked hard debilitating themselves under sultry/frigid conditions, far away from normal obsolescence. Darlings, it was in 2010 spring that she asked Shin to purchase you on Internet. Seven years with you gave much to her. Farewell and thanks a million, take good rest.
