Here you find a rice planter, for which these lovely boats full of young babies are waiting. It is very nice that watered paddies are not so shiny as Otonuma is even early in the morning. Mei-Shun feels happy to walk along them, greeting several other walkers and dogs.

Here comes Golden Week. It was named by the film industry who gain big profits during these serial holidays, they say. And many farmers use it to water their rice paddies before planting seedlings. Mei-Shun overslept a little this morning, saw two farmers already start working on her way to the shrine. Sorry to interrupt you.

Mei-Shun has found the best way to use “tarha”. It has quite stronger notes, might be better on handkerchiefs for example, according to Professor S. Yes, and another way seems to spray it onto after-bath goods including bathrobes, towels and hair turbans. Since we wash ourselves in the bathroom to prepare for a new day, that name sounds pretty right.

Gastrocamera Exam

Mei-Shun had her stomach examined via gastroscopy, conducted by Dr. Y in Tokyo. She experienced nasal one two years ago, felt much easier than oral one, so chose the former this time as well. And she had no problem — better than before. With a sigh of relief, she dropped in on 新井薬師 before seeing her mother living nearby.

春一番, the first spring storm blew in Kanto area on Sunday. A plum tree in the “backyard” began to bloom little by little. You cannot see it from anywhere but our balcony. What a nice privilege we have!

Tasty Floor?

Mei-Shun spilled olive oil in the kitchen this morning. She was shocked first, and thought after a moment that it was not so awful. This ingredient is not only a great source of unsaturated fat but also reputed as a fine cosmetic. Then why don’t we make up the floor with it? A bit slippery though.

Chez Lénon, a French restaurant in Tsukuba, is one of our favorite places. They always serve wonderful soup, employing the best vegetable in season. Current one cooks 聖護院大根, a big, round-shape horse radish grown mainly in Kyoto. It seems such delicacy be praised and enjoyed more.

It was so shocking for Mei-Shun to see her favorite tea shop closed last year, yet recent finding that they have another branch in Tsukuba made her delighted. As season recommendation, a cup of twig green tea called karigane, meaning song of flying wild geese, was served. Twigs pruned from tea plants are mixed with leaves, giving a bit bitter and refreshing flavor.
