Chez Lénon, a French restaurant in Tsukuba, is one of our favorite places. They always serve wonderful soup, employing the best vegetable in season. Current one cooks 聖護院大根, a big, round-shape horse radish grown mainly in Kyoto. It seems such delicacy be praised and enjoyed more.

This Tuesday on the way to home, Mei-Shun dropped in at a branch of 菊廼舎 in Tokyo Station. She reserved specially-designed cans of 冨貴寄, with the symbol of coming 2016 申=monkey, for friends and herself. They are called 年女 or 年男 = people of the year, who were born in the new year symbolized by one of 12 animals. She makes it a rule to send that delicacy to her precious 年女 or 年男, since it seems to bring a good fortune.

Tired to Return

Standard

Joban Line was troubled yesterday by a collision between a car and a train around 18:00. All trains stopped at the nearest stations, the one Mei-Shun used at Toride. The accident occurred beyond Tsuchiura, so she managed to reach her destination. After leaving train station, she found her car “blocked” by another car. The driver said that the engine suddenly stopped. Mei-Shun tried to get out of the parking, yet had to give up soon — it was too difficult for her. Then a middle-aged man kindly helped us, pushing the broken car while instructing Mei-Shun how to turn the steering wheel. Thanks a lot, she made it.

Good to Go

Mei-Shun visited her mother’s home. Relaxed on lunch and a cup of tea, they saw a little, brown mouse (a Micromys minutus maybe) climb a grapevine in the garden to approach half-dried persimmons hung from a laundry pole. Although it looked very cute, mom would not like kissing it, put her winter dessert into a net basket. Well, you have already bit some, kid, they are all yours. Bon appétit!

Not Yet Smart

Standard

Mei-Shun’s “Gara-K”, meaning in current Japanese a cellphone stopped evolving in Galapagos, has once frozen lately. Shin worried about losing communication with her, so she decided to change it into a smart phone. It is twice as big as her previous device, and oh, almost empty in application — needs a lot of care to make it really smart.

“As usual” sounds the most wonderful to Mei-Shun. Dr. A said that her condition is well. Gingko trees around the hospital parking space looked shining in gold to her eyes, as our cymbidium does at home — oh, our gingko in the backyard finally began to turn to the same color.
